ΜΜ23 | Advanced Mechanics of Composite Laminates and Structures
Postgraduate Study Program | Computational and Experimental Engineering and Advanced Materials
Introduction to Laminate Mechanics and the analysis of composite structures. Typical analysis scales. Laminate models for thin laminates and plates: classical laminate theory, first order shear theory, higher order theory. Equivalent governing equations and analytical solutions using the Ritz method. Static loading solutions. Free-Vibration models, calculation of modal frequencies and mode shapes. Linear buckling analysis, calculation of critical buckling loads and shapes. Laminate models for thick and sandwich laminates: Generalized layerwise theories. Interlaminar stresses in composite structures. Free-edge effects and stress fields. Prediction of interlaminar stresses in connection to the previous models. Plate/shell finite elements for the numerical analysis of composite structures. Interface cohesive laws. Non-linear analysis with initial and progressive failure prediction.
