Chassis and Body: design and manufacturing, UN – EU – SAE – DIN norms and legislation. Computer aided design, engineering and manufacturing. Design for reliability, maintenance and recyclability. Vehicles distribution networks, after-sales maintenance and recycling networks, legislation. New technologies-Mechatronics. Traction dynamics of a motor vehicle. Forces acting on a motor vehicle. power balance. Drive-train design characteristics and evaluation algorithms. Characteristics of motor vehicles engines. Otto Diesel and Wankel engines. Pollution control. Suspension, types of automotive suspension, theoretical and experimental evaluation, roll centre, active suspension. Steering and handling, directional stability, transient response during cornering, steering system response. Braking dynamics. Tires, forces acting on tires, tractive force versus tire-road grip. Tires’ operational properties, noise, tires’ behaviour on wet road surfaces.
